Ingredients

6 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup unsalted butter

2 tablespoons flour

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)

1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 egg (for egg wash)

1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and salt. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the apple mixture and cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are slightly tender but still firm. Remove from heat and stir in the caramel sauce, mixing well.

Roll out one pie crust onto a floured surface and transfer it to a 9-inch pie plate. Trim the edges as necessary.

Pour the apple-caramel mixture into the pie crust, spreading it evenly.

Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filling. Pinch the edges together to seal and cut a few slits in the top crust for steam to escape.

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk to create an egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the top crust to give it a beautiful golden color when baked.

Optional: Sprinkle a bit of sugar on top for added sweetness and texture.

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. If the edges brown too quickly, cover them with foil.

Let the pie cool for at least 2 hours before slicing to allow the filling to set.

                      Prep Time: 30 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes | Servings: 8

                        - Presentation Tips: Serve slices of the pie warm, drizzled with extra caramel sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side for a delightful contrast. Enjoy!
